الأرض لها ستة أقمار

كشفت دراسة فلكية حديثة أن الأرض لا تمتلك قمرًا واحدًا فقط، بل على الأقل ستة أقمار صغيرة تدور حولها بمدارات مستقرة.

وأوضح الباحثون أن هذه الأقمار، التي لا يتجاوز قطر بعضها 100 متر، قد تكون شظايا انفصلت عن القمر الرئيسي نتيجة تصادم كويكبات بسطحه عبر الزمن.

ووفقًا للدراسة المنشورة في دورية «إيكاروس»، تبقى هذه الأجسام قرب الأرض لسنوات، ثم تتلاشى أو تصطدم.

ويُعتقد أن القمر نفسه نشأ بعد اصطدام ضخم بين الأرض وكوكب بحجم المريخ قبل 4 مليارات سنة، ما يفتح بابًا جديدًا لفهم تطور النظام القمري المحيط بكوكبنا.

A recent astronomical study revealed that the Earth does not have just one moon, but at least six small moons orbiting it in stable orbits.

The researchers explained that these satellites, some of which do not exceed 100 meters in diameter, may be fragments that have separated from the main moon as a result of asteroids colliding with its surface over time.

According to the study published in the journal ICARUS, these objects remain near Earth for years, and then fade or collide.

It is believed that the moon itself originated after a huge collision between Earth and a planet the size of Mars 4 billion years ago, opening a new door to understand the evolution of the lunar system surrounding our planet.
